CHAPTER ONE
Ava Martinez lounged in the dimly lit booth, her silky, low-cut gown exposing just enough to entice. The sultry atmosphere of the nearly empty Hotel Grande restaurant enveloped her like a warm embrace as she sipped her second margarita. The tangy taste delighted her tongue, and the world seemed to sway subtly around her, each sip taking her closer to intoxication. This was her last night in Cozumel where she had been working for the last three days on the photo shoot, and she was planning to spend the night with the first acceptable man who walked into the bar. When her younger self had dreamed of becoming a supermodel, she hadn’t realized what a lonely business it could be, and she needed the company, if only for one night.
Taking her compact mirror from her tiny clutch purse, she checked her makeup, studying her high cheekbones, light brown skin, and green eyes, but everything looked perfect. She flipped her long black hair away from her face and put her compact back in the purse, which contained only cash, a brush, and makeup.
Maybe tonight will be different, she thought, scanning the entrance with eyes that gleamed with anticipation. She imagined the feel of another's touch, the heat of passion, an escape from the lonely reality that had become her life.
The restaurant door opened and Damien Castillo slipped into the room. Dressed as a respectable businessman, with a face like a leading man from a romantic telenovela, he surveyed the establishment with practiced ease. Ava couldn't help but notice the commanding presence he exuded, drawing her attention away from her idle fantasies.
"Ah, señor Castillo," the bartender greeted him, polishing glasses with deliberate nonchalance. He inclined his head toward Ava's booth, his expression carefully neutral. "You might find what you're looking for over there." Damien left some cash on the bar.
Damien's eyes locked onto Ava, and the air around them seemed to crackle with electricity. She felt a shiver of mingled excitement and foreboding, though she could not place its source. She flashed him a seductive smile, willing him to approach her, to see the potential for a thrilling encounter within her inviting demeanor.
"Good evening," Damien said, sliding into the booth beside her. His voice was velvety smooth, a hint of some South American accent underlying its calm authority. "May I buy you another drink?"
"Of course," Ava replied, her own voice lilting and enticing. "I never turn down a good margarita." As their conversation continued, she found herself drawn to him, her hand resting on his arm while his fingers inched their way up her thigh beneath the folds of her gown.
She told him she was in sales and marketing, rather than being a supermodel, which scared some men away, and he told her he was a sales rep for a pharmaceutical company. She knew they were both lying, but she didn’t care. He looked good enough to eat. His presence was undeniably alluring, yet a dark undercurrent seemed to simmer beneath the surface, hinting at something far more sinister than a simple one-night stand.
Ava's green eyes sparkled like emeralds in the dim light as she locked her gaze with Damien's, a seductive smile on her lips. Her heart pounded in anticipation, every sense heightened by the intoxicating ballet of temptation unfolding between them. As she felt the heat of his body pressing closer, Ava pushed aside her reservations. For tonight, she would relax for once and give in to her desires.
"Damien," she breathed, feeling the warmth of his breath against her neck as she leaned in closer, her breasts nearly spilling out of her low-cut gown. "Would you care to see my room?"
His eyes widened in surprise, but a slow smile spread across his face. "I'd be delighted," he replied. The scent of his cologne, a mix of spice and wood, enveloped Ava, and she wanted more of him. His presence was both alluring and unnerving, a thrill that she couldn't resist.
"Then let's not waste any more time," Ava whispered.
They rose from the booth and left the restaurant, their fates now irrevocably entwined.
***
Ava's spiked heels clicked on the polished marble floor of the hotel hallway, her heart beating in time with each echoing step. Damien's tall and imposing figure stalked closely behind her, his dark eyes never leaving her swaying hips. She could feel the heat of his gaze on her skin, stirring a mixture of desire and unease she couldn't quite shake.
"Right this way," she replied, trying to keep her voice steady as they approached her room. When she checked in, she had asked for the quietest part of the hotel because she liked her privacy. They were near the fire exit at the end of the hallway. Her fingers trembled around the keycard clutched in her hand, anticipating a big night.
Before she could open her door, Damien struck. His hand shot out, covering Ava's mouth before she could even gasp, while his other arm wrapped around her waist, yanking her sideways through the fire exit into the dark alley beyond.
"Let go of me!" Ava yelled into his hand, adrenaline coursing through her body as she twisted and writhed in Damien's iron grip. She managed to bite down hard on his hand, tasting the metallic tang of blood as he grunted in pain. Seizing the opportunity, Ava slammed her elbow into his stomach and wrenched herself free.
"You think you’re a fighter?" Damien growled, anger flashing in his eyes.
Outside in the dead-end alley that smelled like garbage, the glare of headlights from a shiny black SUV illuminated their struggle. Its tinted windows promised only danger and despair, but Ava refused to let fear consume her. With a surge of determination, she launched her attack, her fist connecting with Damien's jaw and sending him stumbling backward.
"Get away from me!" she shouted, desperation giving her strength as she turned to run. Her spiked heels and the alcohol in her system betrayed her, hindering her escape and sending her careening down the wrong path toward a dead-end.
"Run all you want, Ava," Damien called after her. "There's no escaping me."
Ava's heart pounded, the sound echoing in her ears as she stumbled down the alley. Her spiked heels scraped against the rough pavement, each step unsteady and treacherous. There wasn’t time to take off her shoes. Damien's laughter slithered through the air like a serpent, mocking her futile attempt to escape.
"Running the wrong way, Ava," Damien said with amusement. "But by all means, continue."
His footsteps echoed behind her, growing closer with every stride. A bead of sweat rolled down Ava's temple, her breaths coming in ragged gasps. She knew she was cornered, but she refused to give up without a fight.
"Leave me alone!" she shouted back, throwing a glance over her shoulder. Her eyes widened at the sight of Damien closing in.
"You’re coming with me, one way or another," he replied, his tone cruel and casual.
As despair threatened to engulf her, the SUV's door swung open, revealing the imposing figure of Ernesto in a black suit. He stepped out, his muscular frame cutting an intimidating silhouette against the glow of the vehicle's headlights.
"Need a hand, boss?" Ernesto asked with a smirk.
Damien nodded, his eyes never leaving Ava. "She's more trouble than expected."
Ernesto eagerly closed the distance between them, his heavy footsteps quick and purposeful. His shadow loomed over Ava, making her feel small and powerless. Fear coiled in her stomach, but she forced herself to focus on her burning need for escape.
"Two against one? Is that how real men fight?" Ava spat, defiance flashing in her eyes.
"Real men don't leave loose ends," Damien shot back, his icy gaze piercing her soul.
Before she was able to pick up a rusty section of pipe next to the dumpster, Damien tackled her onto a pile of damp boxes. The acrid scent of garbage and wet cardboard filled her nostrils, making it difficult to breathe and gather her thoughts. She tried to ignore the raw pain in her scraped elbows and focus on breaking free from his grip.
"Get off me!" Ava growled, thrashing against Damien's hold. Her voice was laced with both fury and desperation. She kept trying to ram her knees into his back.
"Ernesto, give me a hand," Damien ordered, his breath heaving from the exertion. The large man lumbered over to them with a sinister grin on his face.
"You put up a good fight, but it’s pointless, as I’m going to show you," Ernesto said as he knelt down and pressed one massive palm against her mouth, silencing her protests. His other hand reached down and yanked at the neckline of her gown, ripping it away to bare her breasts to the cool night air.
Ava's eyes widened in shock and horror as Ernesto began to roughly fondle her exposed flesh. His coarse fingers pinched and kneaded, sending waves of fear and revulsion coursing through her veins. She writhed beneath him, her muffled cries sounding pitiful even to her own ears.
"Enjoying yourself, Ernesto?" Damien asked, stepping back to observe the scene with a cold, calculating gaze.
"Very much, boss," Ernesto replied, straddling her hips so he could bend over and lick her nipple with his thick tongue. The sensation made Ava's stomach churn, but she couldn't escape his oppressive weight or overpowering grip. Her traitorous body responded by hardening her nipples.
In her mind, Ava screamed for help, knowing that no one could hear her, but beneath the terror, a small ember of defiant rage still burned, even as tears streamed down her cheeks.
The metallic taste of fear filled Ava's mouth as Ernesto forced a gag between her lips, tying it tightly behind her head. Her breath came in short, panicked gasps, the reality of her situation settling like a heavy weight on her mind. With a grunt, Ernesto hoisted her over his shoulder as if she were nothing more than a sack of potatoes.
"Take her to the car," Damien instructed, his voice cold and detached. "We have a long night ahead."
Ava tried to wriggle out of Ernesto’s grasp as every ounce of her being screamed for her to resist, but her body felt weak and disoriented from the brutal struggle moments before. She tried to kick out with her spiked heels, but only managed to strike Damien in the side as he opened the rear door to the waiting black SUV.
"If you keep fighting, we won’t be so nice," Damien said, rubbing his side where she had struck him. "You'll learn your place soon enough."
Ernesto shoved Ava face-first into the back seat of the SUV, his hand greedily fondling her butt as Damien climbed in on the other side. She squirmed uncomfortably under their lecherous gazes, feeling exposed and vulnerable in her disheveled state.
"Keep still," Damien commanded, his tone brooking no argument.
Desperate to escape, Ava fought against her restraints, her breasts bouncing as Damien expertly tied her wrists behind her back and then secured her ankles together. The tight knots bit into her skin, a constant reminder of her helplessness.
"Welcome to your new life, Ava," Damien said, leaning in close so that she could feel his warm breath on her cheek. "I told my boss I’d bring him a nice gift from my trip to Cozumel. You're our captive now. An object for our pleasure and amusement."
His words made her shudder with revulsion, but she refused to let him see how much they affected her. Instead, she focused on the anger burning within her, using it as fuel to stoke her determination. When she saw her chance, she would escape.
"Your defiance is admirable," Damien continued. "But it won't help you. You'll be broken and remade in our image, a willing toy for your masters."
A hot tear rolled down Ava's cheek as she tried to block out his menacing words. She knew that she could not let their threats and taunts define her fate. In the darkest recesses of her mind, she clung to hope, vowing that she would do whatever was necessary to survive this nightmare and reclaim her freedom.
The engine roared to life as Ernesto settled into the driver's seat, glancing at Ava through the rearview mirror. "Hector is going to love you, pretty one," he taunted, his voice thick with anticipation. "Just wait until we get to the plane—I can't wait to taste you myself."
"Patience, Ernesto," Damien chastised, though his eyes gleamed with a dangerous excitement. "We'll both have our time with her on the flight to California. There's plenty of time to start training her then."
Ava's breaths came in shallow gasps against the gag as she listened to their vile plans. Her panicked thoughts turned to the hotel—they were sure to notice when she didn’t check out, and they would find her things in her room, so they would know something was wrong. She strained against her bonds, refusing to give in to despair, even as Damien's cold fingers pulled off her gown, exposing her naked body to his chilling touch.
"She's clean," he said, his hands methodically roaming over her body, “and no identifying marks or tattoos.” His satisfaction at finding none only heightened her terror.
"Good," Ernesto replied, shifting gears as they pulled away from the hotel. "I've already had her checked out of the hotel and her belongings will be sent to the plane."
So much for the hotel noticing she was missing. Lying on her side on the back seat, she screamed into her gag in frustration. Her head was now in Damien’s lap, and she felt his erection against her cheek as he stroked her hair with one hand and idly fondled one breast with the other.
As the SUV sped through the night, Ava's thoughts raced just as fast, desperately searching for a way out. She refused to let these monsters dictate her fate, but fear gnawed at the edges of her resolve. The feel of Damien's hand cupping her breast felt like a flame burning through her defiance, weakening her resolve.
"Your beauty won't save you, Ava," Damien said, his words a sinister caress as his fingers traced the curve of her hip. "In fact, it's what got you here in the first place."
Though every cell in her body screamed for her to submit to this overpowering presence, to accept the crushing weight of her new reality so she would survive, Ava clung to the embers of hope that still flickered within her. She would fight, she would endure, and somehow, she would escape the hellish nightmare these men had plunged her into.
Or she would die trying.
